Montaro is the only approved stallion available with this unique bloodline combination and some of the best showjumping blood in the world. Sire, Mezcalaro (Voltaire x Ramiro Z) is acclaimed both as a successful international competitor and a sire of many successful upper level offspring. Mezcalero competed and placed in many international events including world cup qualifiers, Nations Cup competitions and represented Mexico in the 1998 World Equestrian Games.
Dam's sire, Coconut Grove qualified for all major show jumping events: the Olympics, World Cup, Pan American games, American Invitational and the American Grand Prix Association Championships. He has 100% positive approval status with 9 European, 9 U.S. and 1 Canadian Registry, the only thoroughbred in U.S. history to accomplish this feat. Dam’s Grandsire, Cassini I needs no introduction, He was a top international competitor and sire of many approved stallions and premium mares.
Not only does Montaro possess the look and power of his sire (Mezcalero) but also the quickness and agility of his dam's sire (Coconut Grove). Montaro is a powerfully built athletic stallion with three good quality gaits and a tremendous amount of jumping ability in both form and scope. He was first approved as a three year old by RPSI with a 9 for his canter and a 10 for his free jump. As a 5 Y/O Montaro competed and was successful in Young Jumper classes in Ocala Florida. He continues to show his versatility by competing in the Jumpers, Hunters and International Hunter Derbies. He has an outstanding character and temperament always with the willingness and ability to work, whether with a seasoned pro or a timid amateur. Montaro completed the 2015 70 day Stallion test finishing 3rd out of 14 stallions. Some of his scores were: Character 10, Temperament 9, Ability and Willingness to work 9.5, Walk 8, Trot 7, Canter 8.5, all jumping scores 8.25 or above, Ridability 9.25 and Cross Country 8.63.
Montaro adds power, length of leg and his laid-back character to his foals. Mare owners consistently comment on how his foals are friendly and easy to work with. At foal inspections, judges always comment on the foal’s powerful hind end with uphill trot and canter.
