Weaning: Nutritional Factors for the Mare - from KER

Kentucky Equine Research has just released a new article on the mare's nutritional needs, particularly at and after weaning. Here's an excerpt: "When a mare gives birth, the foal is completely dependent on her milk for its nutrient and energy needs. A healthy, properly nourished mare produces 3-4% of her body weight in milk per day. For an 1,100-lb (500-kg) mare, that could be 33-44 pounds of milk every day! ...” ...read more

Approved Hanoverian Stallion , International show jumper
Quidam Blue is a licensed and approved Hanoverian stallion. Quidam Blue, competed with Canadian Olympian and silver medalist Jill Henselwood up to the highest level (1.60m). Quidam Blue’s pedigree is filled with famous French, Holsteiner and Westphalian jumping bloodlines, including the names Quidam de Revel, Landgraf I, Come On, Cantus, Pilot and Weinberg. His grandsire Quidam de Revel and his maternal grandsire Come On were both successful international show jumpers. Quidam Blue started his show career in 2010 winning the Five-Year-Old Western Canadian Young Horse Championship. The following years he collected many ribbons at shows like the Spruce Meadows Summer Series under his amateur rider Beke Brinkmann, and played his way into the 1.30m. Moving up to the 1.50m level with his rider Jill Henselwood the highlights in his first years were a third place finish as part of the Canadian Team at the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup in Bratislava, a second place at the Wild Card SmartPak Grand Prix, Saugerties and a win in the SynOil Energy Services CSI** Cup at the Royal West in Calgary.
Quidam Blue's first offspring are entering the show ring proving athletic capability with kind and willing temperaments.
