Dressage at Devon Analysis: Sneak Preview

I had a lovely time at the Dressage at Devon breed show 2018, in spite of the rain. What I saw in 2018 were American-bred winners being the rule rather than the exception. Of the horses in breed classes who scored over 80%, three-quarters were US-bred. Of the five top-scoring horses of all the breed classes, four were bred in the US. My full article, with horse and breeder profiles, will appear soon. Watch my news blog. ...read more

Ulmar Mail

Top Finisher in the French National 4-Year Old Championships
We are excited to introduce the promising stallion Ulmar Mail to North American breeders. Ulmar Mail bred over 100 mares in Europe in his first season at stud and has been competing exceptionally well in sport. In the young Ulmar Mail, you see much of his father, Eurocommerce Berlin. Berlin was winner of the Dutch Championships, multiple Nations Cup competitions, and Team Gold medals at both the World Equestrian Games and the European Championships. Ulmar Mail’s granddam is the wonderful mare Elvira Mail, dam to Olympic competitor Jaguar Mail and World Equestrian Games medalist Katchina Mail.

n 2012 Ulmar Mail was double clear 14 times in 14 starts, was the 2nd best male at the Regional Finals, and placed 7th in the National 4-year old Finals with a double clear round. In 2013, he had 13 out of 18 clear rounds and again qualified for the National Finals. He capped off his 2014 competition season by winning the Selle Francais Stallion Masters during the CSI3* in St. Lô. In 2016, a change in ownership introduced Ulmar Mail to the US hunter market under the name Colton. His careful jumping style and quick reflexes made the transition easy and Ulmar Mail racked up multiple championships in the Pre-Green and Adult Amateur Hunters at top venues such as WEF.

The early Ulmar Mail offspring have impressed as well. Elvira de Vaivre (ds. Jaguar Mail) won her local foal show and then the Regional Selle Francais foal show in Franche Comté in 2014. We have a limited supply of semen for North America and we’ll see the first North American Ulmar Mail offspring in 2017.
